Back to School...

It's been a while since I've posted due to the craziness that comes with the end of the summer and the beginning of a new academic year. So, this post is going to be a sporatic and a hodge-podge of tidbits. This is the randomness of my mind on this second week of school.

During the first days of classes among the traditional syllabi discussion and run-down of the course I discovered a few things:
  • No matter how many times I get asked, I will always find it amusing that students ask if they have to give speeches in a public speaking class. It's also equally if not more amusing to watch their eyes widen in horror at the fact they also have to write papers in addition to giving speeches in my class.
  • I am going to have to just set aside a whole class period to talk about Aristotle, Plato, Cicero, Quintillian, and all the great philosophers who developed the art of public speaking. I get way too geeked out and find myself talking about them the whole class period every time, no matter how much I tell myself I'm gonna cut it short.
  • Having a position where my job is to advocate for student rights and encourage them to challenge the system is bad ass, and I love that I still get to teach on top of that.
  • The two weeks culminating up to the start of the new year and first week back is exhausting, and I need to take a long vacation before this craziness starts next year.
  • Teaching an 8 a.m. class has been both brutal and rewarding. I also now find it impossible to sleep in  on the weekends. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet.

I really enjoy British humor. I've been watching a lot of Dr. Who lately and forgot how much I appreciate both the brits' dry sense of humor and their television. So, I thought you should enjoy some of their humor too.

And now that I've made you laugh, I'm gonna leave you on a more somber note. Sending out positive vibes to all those on the East Coast and hope everyone has been safe from Irene. I have some friends out there, so I was tracking it all throughout last weekend. Not everyone came out of it O.K. and the following image and story is kind of heartbreaking. 24 hours of gaming...

Hello gentle readers!

I apologize it has been so long since I have posted. A brand new semester has started and the craziness that comes with the last bits of Summer and preparing for a new academic school year prevented me from blogging. I hope to get up some shiny new posts when the dust settles.

I have been recruited to join a team of gamers to game in the name of charity. This gaming session of epic proportions is going down on October; 24 solid hours of gaming in order to raise money for a children's hospital in Colorado. I don't usually whore my blog out like this, but in the name of charity and for the children, so I figured it would be O.K. just this once. FOR GOD'S SAKE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

Please consider sponsoring me :) Every little bit helps.

Snapshot Sunday-Impromptu Road Trip

These photos were taken with a cell phone from inside a car, so the quality is not that great. The landscape where I live though, beautiful!

Some friends of mine from Colorado were stranded in Wheatland, WY. A pretty desolate town where the sheep outnumber the people. Picked them up from Wheatland, and we found ourselves back in Colorado in no time.

Effing Hipsters

The hipsters are at it again...le sigh.

Don't understand hipsters either? Asking yourself where did all the hipsters come from? It's really no use trying to make sense of the conundrum that is the hipster. Trust me; your mind could explode.

Office Talk: Freudian Slip?

I heart my jobby job for a plethora of reasons. The most recent being the conversation that took place between the Boss Lady and I after a departmental meeting today.

BL: Do you ever watch porn...(her face instantly begins turning beet red, and she proceeds to giggle)

UD: (with a perplexed look) That's kind of a personal question...I don't know that I'm comfortable answering that...

BL: Oh nooo! I meant to say PAWN Stars!!! I didn't...I am so sorry! I...ugh this is so embarrassing; HR is going to have a field day with this.

Hilarity ensues

Thought this would be an appropriate track to feature in celebration of the World Cup.

One Sweet Dress

Remember that one T.V. show on MTV where that one girl made her prom dress out of duct tape. Pretty sweet eh? Speaking of sweet dresses, duct tape girl has nothing on this soccer mom.

I don't know why Zane is so embarrassed. Although Starburst is known for being a contradiction, it seems to me considering the theme that these two are going to be the hit of the party. That or everyone is going to point and laugh.
